District reports: assessments, spelling bee schedule, STEM lab upgrades and transportation work

District directors provided a cluster of operational updates at the Jan. 8 meeting. The Director of Student Services outlined benchmarking and MTSS work and a Panorama Education SEL professional development session intended to strengthen SEL conversations. The Director of Learning laid out spelling bee schedules: classroom competitions the week of Jan. 13 with grade-level contests Jan. 21–23, the District 66 Spelling Bee on Jan. 30, and the DuPage County regional spelling bee scheduled Feb. 20, 2025.
The Director of Technology described upgrades to the Lakeview STEM Lab's audio and video systems, projector replacements and server/network maintenance, plus use of AI tools to analyze infrastructure vulnerabilities. The Director of Transportation and Buildings & Grounds reported semi-annual bus safety certifications during winter break, a Jan. 7 two-hour refresher for bus drivers (including drivers from neighboring districts), custodial projects and planned flooring and exit-door hardware work at Lakeview funded under the federal SVPP grant.
