District reports steady IAR and MAP gains; 'I Can' statements rolling out for competency-based reporting

District leaders told the board on Nov. 6 that student achievement on state and local measures has improved over recent years while also acknowledging remaining gaps, particularly in foundational literacy in primary grades.
Director of Learning Director Liles said the percentage of students meeting or exceeding standards on the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR) for grades 3–8 has increased over the past four years and now exceeds state averages. Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) growth rates have also risen, though many students who sit below the 50th percentile on MAP still require focused interventions. Principals also described teacher use of MAP reports, targeted small-group instruction and expanded flexible learning spaces to support differentiated instruction.
On competency-based reporting, Director Liles said the district has finalized "I Can" statements for K-8 in ELA, Math, PE and Encore classes and that K-5 teams are completing statements for Science and Social Studies with classroom integration planned by January 2025.
