Pasco County Schools officials told the New Port Richey City Council that Gulf Middle School moved from a D rating to an A after a year of leadership and curriculum changes. "They went from a 43 to 68 points," the district presenter said, calling the turnaround historic and crediting a new principal and targeted interventions for the gains.
District representatives said the improvement reflected deliberate curriculum adjustments, more focused intervention programs and a leadership team determined to support teachers. The presenter credited "intentionality" and the work of the principal and academic team, saying those changes produced learning gains that pushed the school's grade up. The district noted this sort of multi-letter improvement is unusual under the current state grading formula.
The presenter described the change as the result of coordinated work rather than luck: "They made strategic adjustments. They did curriculum, and we did curriculum adjustments. They did intervention adjustments, and they came in with a purpose that all kids can succeed," the presenter said. Council members present praised the staff and welcomed invitations to tour the building once construction allows.
