The Royal Valley USD #337 Board accepted the retirement notice of Penny Carey effective at the end of the 2025–2026 contract and approved a set of resignations and hires during its Nov. 19 meeting. Resignations approved included John Bell (RVHS custodian, effective Nov. 7), Emily Jennings (RVHS English teacher and senior class sponsor, effective at the end of the current contract), Lisa Wege (RVMS head volleyball coach, effective immediately), and Cassandra Bevitt (RVMS 6th grade teacher, effective Nov. 22, 2025) — the minutes record a $3,000 liquidated-damages provision for Bevitt’s breach of contract. The board also approved hiring Ryan Russell as a full-time RVHS custodian (contract) and David Overstreet as RVHS assistant softball coach on a Rule 10 contract. The motion was made by Ann Kelly, seconded by Joe Mitchell, and carried 5–0 with two absences.
The board held executive sessions earlier in the meeting under the non-elected personnel exception of the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) to discuss individual employee performance and also listed an executive-session entry related to confidential student information; no confidential student details were disclosed in the minutes. The personnel approvals recorded in open session were procedural and limited to the items listed in the minutes.
