Buildings and grounds report: boiler inspections set, parking-lot patching favored over full rebuild

The district’s buildings and grounds supervisor reported progress on summer maintenance work and recommended targeted repairs to the North parking lot in advance of the school year.

On mechanical systems, the supervisor said state inspection for boilers had been scheduled for September and described multiple vendor estimates for a sensor replacement and related controls. One vendor quote listed roughly $10,600 for a specific repair package; another vendor’s initial estimate of $17,000 was reported to have been lowered to approximately $12,000, according to the supervisor.

For the North parking lot, the board discussed interim patching for three to four high-priority areas now versus a complete replacement estimated at about $58,000. Buildings staff reported they had measured problem areas and sent pictures to a contractor (Ferguson) and were awaiting a firm quote. The supervisor proposed graveling and chloride application in some spots to firm up edges as a lower-cost interim approach, with a goal of completing essential repairs before school starts (target: Sept. 1).

Board members recommended getting additional bids for any project above typical procurement thresholds and said short-term patching is acceptable if the bond measure does not pass. No final contract award was recorded at this meeting; board members tasked staff to secure bids and report back.
