The Public Safety Subcommittee of the Laconia City Council reviewed a draft management and maintenance plan to create a downtown social district and agreed to forward the plan to the full City Council for review and a public hearing on April 13, 2026. City Manager Kirk Beattie distributed the plan and a map attached to the agenda and said the item had been referred to the committee after a January 26, 2026 City Council discussion.
Committee members discussed operating hours and a start date for the district. Beattie said the hours under consideration were '12-8 PM,' while Chairman Soucy said he 'likes 1-9 PM.' The committee noted a proposed start date of May 28, 2026 and discussed a seasonal option of May 1 through Oct. 31 annually; the committee's consensus was to leave the district's end date open (no automatic sunset). The agenda packet included 'NH House Bill 467' and a proposed district map for council review.
