Mount Kisco board keeps budget hearing open as residents warn town is near tax cap

Mayor J. Michael Cindrich opened a public hearing on the Village of Mount Kisco’s proposed fiscal year 2025–26 budget on April 7 and moved to send the plan to the Finance Committee for review. The motion to open the hearing was seconded by Deputy Mayor Theresa Flora and adopted by the board.
Resident Louis Terlizzi told the board the budget looked "almost at the tax cap," citing recent increases in parking and water rates and urging the board to preserve capital reserves. Village Manager Edward W. Brancati responded that the proposed budget "is in compliance with the NYS tax cap" and that staff had reviewed rollover funds with the State Comptroller’s office. Trustee Karen B. Schleimer said she wanted the public hearing to remain open so the Finance Committee could either submit written comments or present to the board.
After discussion, Mayor Cindrich moved and Deputy Mayor Flora seconded a motion to adjourn the public hearing to April 21, 2025, to allow more time for committee input and board review; the motion was adopted unanimously. The board also noted it would continue to work on the budget through the end of the month to address outstanding concerns.
