The committee undertook a detailed review of proposed employee handbook revisions on June 4. Councilwoman Courtney VanDyke said she would speak with the village solicitor about compliance with the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act and the PUMP Act to ensure protections for pregnant and nursing workers. VanDyke also asked for explicit language forbidding cellphone use while driving village vehicles: "in village vehicles, no cellphone usage while driving." The committee discussed removing Section 4.08 G3 related to the Pleasantville Police and updating Section 3.04.
VanDyke requested clearer distinctions in the handbook between seasonal employees and part‑time regular staff and asked that background checks and drug screenings be required as pre‑employment for ALL staff. Village Administrator Samantha McCreery agreed to investigate which county providers handle background checks and drug screening. The committee also requested that a whistleblower policy be inserted after section 2.01 and that Section 7.13 (Conflict of Interest) be extracted into a separate policy requiring annual signoff by employees.
