District outlines committees, timeline to implement Senate Bill 141 accountability changes

Superintendent Wayne updated the board on the district's work to implement Senate Bill 141 (education accountability). Wayne said administrators divided responsibilities and each led a staff committee (more than 60 people total across the district) that reviewed longitudinal data, current practices and regional trends and produced recommendations across six focus areas including attendance, 3rd- and 8th-grade proficiency, 9th-grade on-track metrics, graduation and reengagement/mental-health supports.
Wayne said committees will produce interim-assessment recommendations and that the state has adopted three assessments while a fourth is still pending. He also noted the district's five-year IXL agreement and the district's hope that IXL will be adopted by the state, which would avoid additional cost. Each committee will present a detailed SB 141 plan to the board over the next two months and the board will incorporate the plan in the June budget approval.
Board members asked clarifying questions about attendance interventions, credit-recovery plans and possible summer school stipends; Wayne said administrators will return with specific proposals.
