Winter Lakes student says cosmetology program and staff support helped her graduate

At the board's school-spotlight segment, student Yvette (S6) described arriving behind on credits and "unsure of my future," and credited Winter Lakes High School staff with personalized support that helped her graduate and find direction.
"Before coming to Winter Lakes, I was behind on credits, unmotivated, unsure of my future," Yvette said. She described being diagnosed with ADHD and said Winter Lakes staff "helped me make a plan and walked me right through it," and that cosmetology classes introduced her to a possible career as an aesthetician.
Tiffany Cox (S5), representing Winter Lakes, and the campus academic advisor (introduced as Snively; S7) highlighted programs that supported students: Trio, Aspire funding, Oregon Goes to College grants, industry and college tours (Klamath CC, OIT, Lane CC, Wolf Creek Job Corps), a college-and-career week scheduled March 9-12, and an on-site practical exam pilot for cosmetology. Staff also described a student-run nail store and business-planning activities that connect CTE skills to entrepreneurship.
Tiffany invited board members and community volunteers to participate in resume-building workshops and mock interviews during the March events.
