Cherry Valley awaits IEPA permit for Well 7; radium and gross alpha retesting required

Village Engineer Kevin Bunge, reporting for Adam Bunge, C.E.S., told the Committee of the Whole on July 28 that the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) had indicated a Well 7 construction permit should have been issued the week of May 26, 2025, but the village has not yet received the official approval letter. Bunge said the village will need to perform final well water quality testing, including retesting for radium and gross alpha, when it applies for operating permits.
The engineers listed next steps as awaiting the IEPA’s official approval letter and completing final water-quality sampling and monitoring set-ups. The timeline and permit status will determine when the new well house can enter construction and later operation; the engineer noted SCADA equipment has been received and is being wired by DPI and Helm as part of the well-house build-out.
