Park board backs Special Olympics 'duck pluck' fundraiser and offers facility support

Representatives of the Lake County Special Olympics presented a fundraising plan to sell 1,000 numbered ducks at $10 apiece and release them into the lake on Oct. 7 for a 'duck pluck' race. Chair read the prize structure shared by organizers: a $500 first prize, $250 second prize and three $100 prizes for additional placings.
The board moved to support the event, provide the shelter for the organization, close the beach to swimmers during the event and assist with promotion; members also discussed that advertisement should be deferred until final approvals and visual layouts are completed. The motion to support the event and donate the shelter passed 4–0.
Organizers said they will sell ducks at farmers markets and return with a finalized event plan; staff will coordinate beach closures and event logistics with public safety and facilities teams.
