Proposal for Cherry Valley grocery tax fails in 2nd‑reading vote
Summary

Trustee Belt brought forward a proposed ordinance to add a municipal grocery retailers’ occupation tax and municipal grocery service occupation tax. During second and final reading, Trustee Belt moved to amend the proposal to change the tax rate from 0.5% to 1.0. The proposed amendment failed on a 2–4 roll call (two AYES: Belt and Kramer; four NAYS: Neville, Hollembeak, Pearse, Wedig).
After the failed amendment the board proceeded to consider the ordinance as written at 1% (as presented during the meeting) and the motion to adopt failed 2–4 by roll call. The board did not adopt the grocery tax ordinance at this meeting and Trustee Kramer requested the item be discussed at a future Committee of the Whole meeting.
