Planning board adds Port Ontario to hamlets list, flags historic-building protections

The Town of Richland and Village of Pulaski Comprehensive Planning Board resumed review of the Comprehensive Plan and made edits to the hamlets listing and references to historic resources. "Review of the Comprehensive Plan resumed on page 184," the Clerk read at the opening of the meeting.

The board added "Port Ontario" to the hamlets list and removed the word "historic" from line 7 of the document. Millie Newcomb, a Town representative, agreed to search for an inventory of historic buildings in the hamlets and to contact Shawn to determine whether there are protections in place for those properties. Buildings noted by the board included the Bethel and the Lighthouse at Port Ontario, Rural Migrant Ministries, the Halfshire in Richland, and the Mill and Community Center in Fernwood.

Jan Tighe, a Village representative, was assigned to check with the County Historian for a more accurate count of Revolutionary War veterans referenced in the plan. The board noted several formatting concerns — including updated page references and a change in exit-number text — that will need attention when the plan is reflowed for publication. Jan will also contact Dawn Holynski for an update on the typing of the Comprehensive Plan, and Matt Johnson, the Tug Hill representative, will solicit proofreader and printer recommendations from other municipalities.

The board did not take a formal vote on policy changes during this meeting; members recorded only these text edits and follow-up assignments.
