District staff presented a review of certified and classified salary scales and touted non-salary benefits negotiated in the latest classified contract as key recruitment tools. The presenter said the district will "fully fund medical insurance for the employee, the employee and spouse, the employee children, the employee and family" so that covered staff will have no out-of-pocket premium costs for the district-provided plan.
The presenter also described district childcare support: "We have 12 classified staff members, 14 certified staff members use the day care, which is a total of 31 staff member children this year, and that's for $10 a month." Board members and staff said the combination of paid premiums, signing bonuses and three-year contracts should help both recruit new employees and retain existing staff.
Questions from board members focused on entry-step placement for new hires and how the district compares regionally for new employees. Staff said they will provide comparative step-1 data to the board and continue to refine hiring and compensation strategies.
