Interim County Engineer Steve Schnieder and Assistant County Engineer Kyle Pillatzki updated the board on several transportation items and presented bids for two bridge-replacement projects. Pillatzki said construction on the Windom Golf Course-area bridge has stopped for the winter and that extra signage will be added.
Schnieder presented the bids for Projects SAP 017-598-012 and SAP 017-598-013 (removal of existing bridges and installation of precast concrete box culverts). Bids were: Midwest Contracting, LLC - $701,398.38; Towne & Country Excavating, LLC - $784,755.00; and R&G Construction Co. - $914,396.64. The board accepted the low bid from Midwest Contracting, LLC (motion by Commissioner Donna Gravley; second by Commissioner Tom Appel) and approved executing the contract.
Schnieder also presented MnDOT Detour Agreement No. 1061732 related to a Trunk Highway 30 culvert replacement east of Westbrook and the proposed use of the County State Aid Highway system as a detour; the board adopted the resolution approving the agreement (motion by Commissioner Larry Anderson; second by Commissioner Tom Appel). Schnieder added Union Pacific is preparing estimates for improvements at two railroad crossings; no formal action was recorded on that item.
