The Chicago Heights City Council approved Resolution #2026-75 to accept an Organized Retail Crime grant agreement with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General. Police Superintendent Matt Gainer told the council that $40,000 of the award would go to license-plate-reader maintenance and to a digital forensics program for the detective division, while the remaining $5,000 would pay officer overtime in the retail area.
Alderman Wanda Rodgers moved the resolution and Alderman Sonia Perez seconded; the motion carried with recorded ayes in the July 15 minutes. The grant will be administered by the Police Department and must follow the grant agreement's reporting and allowable-use requirements.
