Economic Vitality Committee approves July highlights, sets communications push

The Columbia River Gorge Commission's Economic Vitality Committee on Aug. 5 voted to approve the meeting highlights from July 1 so staff can post them publicly. Chair Litware seconded the motion and commissioners approved it by voice vote.

Committee members then turned to communications strategy, agreeing to work with the commission communications committee to identify two priority messages and to develop a regular cadence of short, shareable items. Staff said existing materials from regional planning processes can be distilled into "did you know" items and short features to platform funding recipients.

Why it matters: commissioners said better, regular outbound communications will help the public and county leaders understand the committee's mission, show how funded projects support local economy objectives, and reduce confusion during the coming management-plan review.

"We should each of us should probably take on producing one piece of collateral for that publication," the staff member said, urging a programmatic rather than ad hoc approach to the newsletter.

Staff will coordinate with the communications committee and report back on a proposed cadence and the first items for the newsletter. The committee also discussed producing a concise annual or biannual narrative report to mark the commission's 40th anniversary and to support legislative outreach.
