Village readies beaches for winter, plans shower upgrades and enforces kayak removal deadline

Beach manager Brian Cassidy updated the Council on end-of-season beach operations, saying stairs will be removed soon at several beach stops for winter while stairs will remain at stops 37, 38 and 41.5. Cassidy said the Village is researching new, more durable shower solutions planned to be in place by Memorial Day next year.
Public Works supervisor Rick Rietz reminded residents that kayaks and paddleboards must be removed from beach racks by Oct. 15; items left after that date will receive a citation and become Village property if not picked up within 30 days. Cassidy addressed recent negative online comments about him on the Michiana People community group, calling the circulated information "inaccurate and offensive," and invited residents to contact him directly or call the Village office.
The Council approved reallocating $513 left over from a Beach Garden Club project toward trees, and Nancy Thill said the Village will pursue Tree City USA recertification for 2026.
