Council discusses EGLE oversight, Stop 43 access and beach maintenance after Master Plan open house

Building Inspector Bill Lambert told the council that the Ledgers have EGLE approval related to a beach crossing but require village authorization to cross village property at Stop 43. Attorney Sara Senica prepared a hold-harmless agreement to make the contractor and homeowner responsible; the council agreed to allow crossing only if the agreement is signed and the Ledgers' contractor will assist with restoration and cleanup upon completion.
Beach Commissioner Brian Cassidy reported recent beach maintenance items: four new buoys installed, ordered shower parts (with extras for inventory) and noted fountain failures linked to an inability to winterize the system. Cassidy summarized feedback from the July 26 Master Plan open house, including resident concerns about dogs on the beach and reminded residents that dogs are permitted only during posted hours and must be on a leash.
Separately, Tim McCarthy reported that EGLE is still monitoring a structure on the beach and that a second notice will be issued; if there is no response, the matter will escalate to another state office and the village will await further guidance from EGLE. The council agreed to reopen Stop 43 for residents to watch the sunset but keep fences in place to prevent unsafe beach access due to rocky conditions.
