Resident warns moratorium must address enforcement or renters will ‘become the watchdogs’

During the public hearing on March 4, resident Jenna Wratten urged the Town Board to consider enforcement and the long-term community impact of short-term rentals. "There is no Town enforcement once a permit is issued and residents must become the watchdogs, the abundance of STTRs leaves no affordable housing for young families with children," she said.
Council Member Kristen Velasco, who noted she has served on the board since 2018, said the moratorium is designed to give the board time to update antiquated rules and add a formal complaint process so enforcement data can be gathered during the pause in new approvals. The board also agreed to consult the Town Attorney about whether applications already in process can proceed during the moratorium.
