Milford board to review proposal for town disability tax exemption

Milford Assessor Sherri Falcone told the Town Board on Nov. 19 that a town-level disability tax exemption could be structured to reduce assessed value and be applied on either a sliding scale or a flat percentage.
"Exemptions would be of the assessed value," Falcone said, adding that eligibility could mirror existing agricultural or income-based exemptions and that adoption would require passage of a local law. The board did not draft the law at the meeting but agreed to review the proposal at its next regular meeting.
Board members did not vote on specific percentages; the discussion was limited to framing and next steps. The matter was recorded for further consideration on the agenda at the subsequent meeting.
