Milford highway superintendent raises salt-shed, right-of-way and tree-removal concerns

Highway Superintendent Billy Sutphin told the Milford Town Board on July 16 that the Village is willing to allow a salt shed in a Village-owned gravel bank only if the Town can guarantee it will not contaminate the water supply. Sutphin said the Village otherwise appeared agreeable and asked to meet with town officials to discuss shared services.
Sutphin also raised operational and public-safety concerns about lake-area roads that were constructed to older, narrower standards, saying some residents have placed rocks and logs on the town right-of-way. He asked whether the town would be liable if a vehicle struck those obstructions and stressed that fire trucks and ambulances must be able to pass. Council Member Harold Couse said he would seek guidance from the Association of Towns.
Sutphin requested a tree-removal line be added to next year’s highway budget and noted resident Sam Beisler had cut trees on Bob Wilson Road without charging the Town. The highway superintendent’s items cover capital/maintenance planning and potential intermunicipal agreements that the board may need to study further before taking formal action.
