The City Council voted on July 15 to impose a Transportation Benefit District sales and use tax of one-tenth of one percent (0.1%) under Ordinance No. 1081-2026 while keeping the existing $20 TBD vehicle license fee. The motion to adopt the ordinance passed with four votes in favor and one dissenting vote from Council Member Tom FitzGerald.
Council Member Steven Glenn moved adoption of the sales tax ordinance and Mayor Pro Tem David Griggs seconded; the council recorded the following result: AYES from Mayor Matthew Hartman, Council Members Steven Glenn, David Griggs and Bruce Straughn; NAYS from Council Member Tom FitzGerald. The ordinance imposes a local TBD sales tax authorized by Chapter 36.73 RCW and RCW 82.14.0455 and will expand the city's transportation-funding toolbox.
