Elkton schedules Feb. 18 joint public hearings on storage unit, motel and church tower

The Town of Elkton Council Committees voted Feb. 3 to schedule joint public hearings for Feb. 18, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. to consider three separate special exception requests. The hearings will review: Mountain View Self‑Storage’s request for one mini storage unit at 13663 Spotswood Trail (tax map no. 129‑A‑179A1); a request from Chris and Pamela Shiflet for a motel, motor court, or inn at 15630 Old Spotswood Trail (tax map no. 130A‑5‑B7‑5A); and a request from the Seventh Day Adventist Church for a 55‑foot telecommunications tower at 20995 Blue and Gold Drive (tax map no. 131‑A‑32).
Council member Jan Hensley moved to set the joint hearings, Vice‑Mayor Rick Workman seconded the motion, and the council carried the measure on a 5‑0 voice vote (Yeas: Workman, Fulginiti, Hensley, Napotnik, Heidel). Scheduling the hearings gives the public a formal opportunity to comment and for staff to prepare materials for the Feb. 18 meeting.
Each application will be considered under the town’s special exception and zoning procedures at the joint hearing. The council did not take any final votes on the applications on Feb. 3; a public hearing and any subsequent action will occur on Feb. 18.
