Parents say students suffered chemical injuries; call for outside pool maintenance

The speakers presented county inspection reports and photos and asked the board to remove an unlicensed district employee from pool duties and to retain third‑party professionals.
"Hair loss, discoloration, irritated eyes, and patchy skin — these are not minor issues," said Myra Carrasco, a parent and educator describing her son nd other student athletes. Amber Castillo, another parent who provided inspection reports and photos, urged the board: "I'm asking for the pool maintenance job to be dissolved for the district," and asked that outside certified contractors be used instead. Several commenters said county inspectors issued noncompliance notices and that a program had to pause because the pool was unsafe.
Board members acknowledged the gravity of the claims, said staff had met with parents, and President Serrano and the superintendent committed to follow-up meetings and a board communication to schedule further action. Trustees said they would pursue both immediate safety measures and a fuller review at the continuance meeting.
