CSEA leaders tell board PERB ruled for members, urge halt to appeals

CSEA chapter leaders used the public comment period to press the newly seated board to abide by a recent Public Employment Relations Board decision and to end further appeals that they say waste taxpayer money.
"PERB has ruled in my favor once again," said Margaret Caldera, CSEA chapter president, summarizing a sequence of decisions beginning in April 2024 and a November denial of the district ppeal. Caldera told the board the ruling included an order that the superintendent read a notice aloud to CSEA-represented employees and called for training, transparent processes and accountability. Several union representatives also urged the board to prioritize district funds for students and staff instead of legal challenges.
Union negotiators and representatives from HLPTA and HOPTA also asked the board to reconvene stakeholder committees on modernization projects and stressed timely communication during emergency incidents. Board members acknowledged the comments and flagged that some items must be resolved tonight for legal compliance, while others would be continued to the next meeting for fuller consideration.
