District presents strategic-plan timeline and student participants urge continued engagement

District staff and consultants presented an update on development of the HLPUSD strategic plan, describing three workshop days in 2024 with Hanover and a planned timeline for stakeholder feedback and board review in March–May 2025. Director Lily Picado said the process engaged student representatives, parents, union and association leaders, and administrators to draft vision, mission and core values and to identify four priorities.
Student representatives from Los Altos, Workman, Wilson, La Puente and Valley Alternative schools described the experience as empowering. Naomi Rangel Franco, a Los Altos student board rep, said she was "grateful to have been able to be part of strategic planning" and that her "voice was heard." The district plans further stakeholder review in February and hopes to present a revised plan to the board by spring for adoption, with implementation planning over the summer and an initial roll‑out in the fall. Staff said the plan aims to focus limited resources on prioritized goals and to establish indicators for monitoring progress.
