Council approves development deal for Chipotle in 1 North redevelopment area

The North Kansas City Council voted to adopt an ordinance approving a development agreement and real-estate sale with North Diamond Development LLC to allow construction of a Chipotle on roughly 1.01 acres in the 1 North redevelopment area. Developer Chuck Zug said the building would be the company's new "habanero" prototype, about 2,385 square feet with 36 interior seats and 16 patio seats, and that the team worked with the city to upgrade exterior finishes.
"We've been working on it for 3 years, and the time has come," Chuck Zug said during a brief presentation to council. He also noted a prior plan to include a pickup window was removed after review. Council moved Bill 8003 to second and final reading and passed the ordinance (Ordinance No. 9,800) by roll call vote with the members present voting in the affirmative.
City staff framed the sale and agreement as part of the 1 North redevelopment work. Councilmember Saper told viewers the project has been through multiple iterations and that "we think we've got a great partner." The council took no additional amendments on the floor and completed the ordinance adoption that evening.
