Clayton City Council on Monday approved three new ordinances that change how oversized vehicles, trailers and vehicle-related activity on public streets are regulated.
The first ordinance (0052605) amends section 351.06 to separate oversized-vehicle rules from trailer parking, set dimensional limits and carve-outs for deliveries and recreational vehicles, and add a misdemeanor penalty and daily enforcement authority. Police Chief Nabel told council the update “provides additional teeth” so the city does not have to rely solely on towing under the existing 30308 section.
A second ordinance (0052606) adds section 351.15 to limit hours that trailers and towed vehicles may be parked on streets. A third ordinance (0052607) creates section 351.16 to prohibit selling, washing or repairing vehicles on roadways. All three ordinances were read by the clerk and approved on voice votes without recorded roll-call tallies.
Chief Nabel clarified enforcement carve-outs: “disabled vehicles” are treated under the existing 30308 provision (48 hours) and recreational vehicles have a 12-hour allowance within any 24-hour period. Councilmembers who spoke praised the clearer language and the new enforcement mechanism.
The ordinances take effect per Clayton’s codified procedures; the clerk will publish the ordinance texts and effective dates in the standard location.
