Board hears Recreation Center and infrastructure updates; closes pond for kids' derby

Supervisor Anthony Fernandez reported several Parks and infrastructure items at the May 12 meeting. He said the Recreation Center porch project is complete and asked the Town Clerk to explore donating gaming tables stored at the center to a youth group. The board deferred a decision about enclosing the rear porch pending a cleanup to determine storage needs.
Fernandez updated the board on the town's cell tower site: the platform is being constructed, National Grid is working on power, and the tower is expected to be delivered in June. He also said he submitted an application to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation so groomers can access state land off-season for bridge repairs; the town is awaiting DEC response.
On recreation events, Fernandez said he wanted to close the Fire Pond to public fishing until after the Rod & Gun Club kids fishing derby on June 20. Sonya DeVuyst moved to close the pond for the derby; Brian Taylor seconded and the motion carried. Fernandez also said the playground is open and the town plans to procure replacement swings, and he proposed buying 15 flag kits for year-round display in town center and a banner to mark the nation's 250th anniversary to be discussed at the next meeting.
