Morehouse supervisor says IRS/Social Security discrepancy from 2023 still under review

Supervisor Anthony Fernandez told the board the town had a payroll/Social Security discrepancy for 2022 that he believes has been resolved but that a separate discrepancy from 2023 remains unresolved. He said he received a letter from the IRS and plans to meet with PITS, the accounting firm in Indian Lake, to work toward resolution.
Fernandez said the accounting firm recommended paying a penalty of approximately $1,700 now and seeking reimbursement later if the IRS rules for the town. "The Accounting Firm in Indian Lake thinks we should pay the penalty of around $1,700.00, and if this goes on our favor the IRS will reimburse the amount of the penalty," Fernandez said. He indicated he would try to resolve the matter before the end of 2026.
