Board adopts dog-licensing law and introduces tax-levy override ahead of 2026 budget hearing

The Morehouse Town Board adopted Local Law #4 of 2025 to (re)establish dog-licensing rules that previously were not filed with the state. Supervisor Anthony Fernandez said the local law had been intended to take effect in 2015 but was never recorded with the Secretary of State; the board adopted it so it can be properly filed.
At the same meeting the board introduced Local Law #5 of 2025 to override the statutory 2% tax-levy limit so the town’s 2026 budget can be processed with the state. Sonya DeVuyst moved to introduce Local Law #5 and Mary Ann Mosher seconded; the board set a public hearing on Local Law #5 and the 2026 budget for Nov. 5, 2025, at 7 p.m.
No detailed budget figures were discussed during the Oct. 14 meeting; the town will hold a public budget workshop on Oct. 21 and a formal public hearing on Nov. 5. Residents can review officers’ reports and supporting budget documents at Town Hall beginning Oct. 15 per the town clerk.
