The Victoria ISD Board of Trustees voted to schedule a public hearing on the district's proposed 2026–27 budget and tax rate and approved publication of the required notice. District staff emphasized trustees were approving only the notice and hearing date, not final budget adoption.
"We're going to move into the other fund that you also approve," said Mrs. Yates as she reviewed fund-level estimates; staff presented a combined proposed budget balanced at $135,300,000 and an enrollment estimate of 12,240. The board passed a motion to schedule the public hearing for Thursday, Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m., and later approved publication of the tax-rate notice with a publication date discussed in the meeting as Aug. 16. Trustees and staff clarified that the board was not adopting final budget or tax-rate figures at the special meeting; those actions are scheduled for the public hearing.
A brief public comment by John Swanson praised district staff and leadership: "I know y'all are doing a lot of good hard work and I appreciate it," he told trustees. Trustees asked staff to post clearer explanatory materials on the bond and budget web pages so residents can more easily see how funds and amortizations affect tax-rate presentations.
