Owner of fire-damaged 89 Linden Road given one-month extension to seek repairs

The Town of Fishkill held a public hearing Aug. 5 on a proposed demolition of the unsafe property at 89 Linden Road. Property owner Richard Kazmiercz (S13) said he has lived in the house since 1978 and is seeking contractors and estimates to repair the fire damage rather than lose the home. "I've been in the house since 1978," Kazmiercz told the board and said he was trying to obtain estimates in the coming days.
Board members described the demolition process, explained the RFP and billing procedure (town pays upfront, then places the charge on the property's tax bill), and offered Kazmiercz a one‑month courtesy extension to present a signed contract or concrete plan at the Sept. 2 meeting. One neighbor urged that, if no signed contract appears Sept. 2, the town should move forward with removal for safety and quality‑of‑life reasons.
