The Rankin School District #98 board on Nov. 17 approved a set of employee benefit plans for calendar year 2026 after receiving the District Health Insurance Committee's recommendation.
Dr. Gordon summarized the committee's Nov. 4 review and said the committee recommended renewing medical coverage with BlueCross BlueShield of Illinois despite proposed increases of about 13.96% for the PPO option and about 11.68% for the HMO option. He said the committee discussed supplemental insurance options to mitigate increases but "did not recommend it for this year." The board approved the medical plan on a 5-0 roll-call vote.
The board also approved dental and life insurance with Lincoln Financial Group, voluntary vision through BlueCross BlueShield (EyeMed via BCBS), and the HealthiestYou by Teladoc telehealth service. Each motion was moved, seconded, and passed unanimously as part of the action items recorded in the minutes.
Board members discussed that supplemental coverage remains an option if renewal increases continue to rise and district finances tighten in future years; no immediate supplemental plan was adopted at the meeting.
All insurance-related motions were approved by recorded roll-call votes of 5-0.
