Rankin plans staged Chromebook purchases to retire outdated Dells

Dr. Matt Gordon presented Chromebook inventory counts for Rankin’s 1:1 program: in-use devices include 136 Lenovos, 110 Acers (4 available), and 27 Dells primarily used as spares; the total reported was 273 devices across students, staff, and spares. Gordon said currently available devices are 5 Lenovos, 5 Acers, and 7 Dells, and that six additional Chromebooks are in repair (one Acer and five Lenovos).
Because the Dells are outdated and cannot run needed student programs, Gordon proposed purchasing roughly 30 new Chromebooks so all Dells could be removed from availability and at least 12 newer Chromebooks would be available as replacements. His plan is to recommend an initial purchase of about 15 Chromebooks in January and, depending on FY26 budget figures, a second purchase near the end of FY26; the committee supported the staged approach.
