District 23 unveils FY26 professional development plan with new curricula and leadership focus

Curtis said the plan will use 22 Monday meetings, four institute days and two school improvement days to deliver training. District-wide PD themes include implementing new mathematics curricula and Tier 2/3 interventions, rolling out MTSS schoolwide behavior strategies aligned with the SAFe Framework, expanding SEL materials, and building teacher leadership through a Leadership Summit and Adaptive Schools training. Committee work to align curriculum and standards (math, library media, SEL, multilingual services) will continue throughout the year.
Curtis summarized intended outcomes: clearer expectations for instruction and grading, consistent student experiences across buildings, expanded use of data for MTSS, and professional learning targeted at supporting specialized programs. "We are committed to providing staff members opportunities to engage in meaningful and relevant topics that can positively impact the teaching and learning occurring in District 23," Curtis wrote in the plan memo presented to the board.
