North Mankato signs on to 2026 transit services; city share rises to $165,786

Council adopted Res. No. 61-25 authorizing the City Administrator to enter into the City of Mankato-led transit services agreement for calendar year 2026. Shawn Schloesser, Associate Director of Transportation Planning Services for the City of Mankato, presented ridership trends and a historical cost summary showing a total operating cost of $6,185,113. Schloesser said North Mankato's share is $165,786, a 5.5% increase over 2025, and that the funding split is City of Mankato 49%, Minnesota State University Mankato 40%, and City of North Mankato 11%.
Schloesser described planned initiatives for 2025–2026 including bus stop improvements, an automated voice announcement system, summer services around MSU, and an automated passenger counter. The council voted unanimously to adopt the resolution authorizing the agreement.
