Prairie View A&M President Tamika P. LeGrand told the court the university is in high demand, has had a waiting list for the last three years and is expanding campus capacity. "The state'provided us funding for $47,000,000. That building will open in January officially," LeGrand said, and she described plans for a new residence hall (roughly 950 beds referenced) and a Texas A&M System-approved $130,000,000 public-and-allied-health building to address rising workforce needs.
The proclamation text read by the county judge recalled the university's founding in the Texas constitution of 1876, noted Prairie View's designation as a land-grant institution and cited its enrollment and alumni footprint. State Representative Stan Kitzman addressed the court to praise the university's land-grant mission and the community benefits of Prairie View's statewide research and outreach, saying the school "is a special place" and commending the court's resolution.
The court adopted the proclamation without additional amendment and invited university leaders and legislators for photos. The item was presented and approved as part of the court's consent and proclamations portion of the agenda.
