Commissioners favor shortening short-term event limit from 14 to 7 days

S3/Commissioner asked how the "14 consecutive days" duration and "4 short term events" per year were selected and noted that 14 days felt excessive; several commissioners and staff said the numbers were selected to prevent effectively year-round commercial uses. "That number was selected, though, to prevent, certain uses that people will say, well, this is just temporary, but they do it all year long," S6/Staff member said.
Several commissioners proposed lowering the consecutive-day cap to seven days and increasing the annual allowance to six events; S1/Chair and S3/Commissioner explicitly voiced support for that change. Staff said the numbers are adjustable and that administrative use permits would still apply for larger or more frequent events. No final ordinance vote occurred; staff asked for direction on recommended numeric limits.
The commission also discussed exemptions for private gatherings (weddings identified as incidental were noted as exempt) and how existing use permits would be grandfathered, with use-permit modifications required for operators seeking to expand under the new rules.
