Sarah Clark, director of Health & Human Services, and Donny Forsyth, a new member of the Siskiyou County Behavioral Health Advisory Council, presented services and outreach planned for Mental Health Awareness Month.
Clark explained that local advisory boards support plan development and community outreach and noted that state changes to the Mental Health Services Act are shifting responsibilities and funding arrangements toward integrated planning under the Behavioral Health Services Act. "Local councils are funded to help develop integrated plans that blend various funding sources including Medi-Cal, opioid settlement funds, and grants," Clark told the board.
Forsyth described current and upcoming local resources, including weekly workshops and an annual "Break the Stigma" event on May 19. He said the advisory board will continue site visits to local providers and advocate for liaison work with patients' rights advocates and school-based services.
The board moved and approved a proclamation recognizing Mental Health Awareness Month; staff said they would continue planning and report back as implementation proceeds.
