The council voted on May 19 to set a public hearing for 7 p.m. on June 2, 2025, to consider creating a CI‑1 Commercial‑Industrial zoning district. Community Development Director Fischer said the new district responds to limited land available for future commercial development and is intended to allow both commercial and light industrial uses to coexist, with the North Port Industrial Park and the north side of Commerce Drive cited as candidate areas. The Planning Commission reviewed and recommended the proposal.
If adopted after public hearing and deliberation, the CI‑1 district would provide more flexible development options where both commercial and light industrial uses are appropriate, with permitted uses and conditions to be established through the ordinance process.
