The North Mankato City Council unanimously adopted Ordinance No. 187 on May 5, 2025, suspending City Code Sections 52.01(D),(E) and (F) that require replacement of discovered lead or galvanized water service lines. City Engineer Sarff told the council the suspension is intended to give staff time to seek grant funding for a comprehensive waterline replacement program rather than requiring piecemeal replacements as they are discovered.
Resident Barb Church spoke during the public hearing in favor of the suspension, thanking the council for allowing staff time to "locate funding sources." The suspension passed on a roll-call vote with Council Members Whitlock, Steiner, Oachs, Peterson and Mayor Carlson voting aye.
