Shandaken board backs Catskill Watershed Corporation funding to buy new town hall complex

"There's a resolution tonight to accept funding from the Catskill Watershed Corporation for purchase Town Hall Complex on Route 28," Supervisor Matt said, explaining the move is necessary because the existing school site is in a floodplain and not reliable for critical facilities. The board also appointed Rob Stanley as floodplain administrator for 2026, to be paid $50 per hour not to exceed $30,000 plus mileage.
Board members said the relocation is driven by disaster-readiness concerns: the new site lies outside the flood plain and would be more accessible during emergencies. The measure was adopted in a recorded resolution (Resolution 99-26). The board did not specify closing dates or a final purchase price in the public discussion; staff indicated further implementation work is pending the formal agreement and funding transfer.
