The Lorain County Board of Commissioners approved two Engineer office requests on June 2: a construction contract for pavement maintenance and a multi‑year equipment lease.
The board awarded the 2026 countywide chip‑and‑seal program to Melway Paving Co., Inc. for $1,034,821.50. The project covers approximately 48 miles of county and township roads; Melway agreed to complete work by Sept. 15, 2026. The engineer's office said the county's estimate at bid opening was $1,110,846 and that the townships will reimburse the county for the township portions (estimated reimbursement $455,460.64).
The board also authorized a seven‑year lease/purchase agreement with KS State Bank for $298,471 to acquire a Volvo tandem plow truck with a dump body. The resolution authorizes annual lease payments of $52,954.63 from the MVGT account beginning in 2027 and ending in 2033.
