Whittier council unanimously certifies April 14 election, installs three new members

The Whittier City Council unanimously adopted Resolution No. 2026-19 on April 28, 2026, certifying the results of the General Municipal Election held on April 14, 2026, city clerk Rigoberto Garcia, Jr. said during the council presentation.
After adopting the resolution, the council recessed to the front lawn for an installation ceremony. Officials from the offices of U.S. Senator Bob Archuleta and County Assessor Jeff Prang attended and presented commendations. Alex Moisa, Yashar Basmenji and Mary Louise Wright administered the Oath of Office for newly elected members Aida Macedo, Vicky Santana and Mayor James Becerra, respectively, and City Clerk Garcia provided Certificates of Election.
The outgoing and incoming council members exchanged remarks during the ceremony. Mayor Joseph A. Vinatieri said it “has been an honor to serve the people of Whittier,” and multiple council members thanked staff and family for their support. Supervisor Janice Hahn offered brief remarks welcoming the new council. The council reconvened in the Council Chamber with all members present to continue regular business.
