Performing Arts Center programs surge; STEAM classes build solar collectors and bee boxes

Dwayne Whitmyer, Director of the Performing Arts Center and the district STEAM building, briefed the board on program growth and student projects at the Nov. 24 meeting.
Whitmyer said PAC events have increased "from 23 to more than 80 annually over the past seven and a half years," and noted a revived middle‑school fall play, Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?, featuring an eight‑member cast with set pieces created by the new Engineering for the Arts class. He described STEAM activities used by Building Trades — which is constructing solar heat collectors and bee boxes — robotics, and the Engineering for the Arts class, and asked for greater community volunteer involvement to support plays, directing and events.
Whitmyer also noted the STEAM building hosted the Art Attack event in spring and that hands‑on course work is central to the district's engagement strategy for students.
