CPIC urges board to back Smart Growth planning grant to update zoning

She said the committee is seeking grant funding to support a comprehensive update to the town’s zoning regulations to align with the Seneca Falls 2040 plan and downtown revitalization efforts.
Fitzgerald said the town is seeking support to apply for the New York State Smart Growth Community Planning Grant Program and outlined the financing: the grant could cover up to 85% of total project cost, would require the town to front eligible expenses with reimbursement at completion, and requires a local match. She said, “A resolution has been submitted for consideration by the town board this evening, seeking authorization to apply for the grant and approval of the financial commitments associated with the award.”
Board members asked procedural questions about match obligations and the timeline; the board later voted to authorize the application and required local commitments in a separate resolution on the agenda.
