Board hears budget uncertainty; free meals will run only through Sept. 30

Superintendent Jamie Kraatz informed the board Aug. 11 that the district does not yet have a state budget to begin the school year and that the future of free school meals beyond Sept. 30, 2025, is uncertain. Kraatz said the district can operate free breakfast and lunch similar to last year until Sept. 30, but options after that date are unknown.
Kraatz also told the board that the district athletic trainer has retired; the position will be posted immediately through Mi-Michigan Health and parents and coaches have been instructed to report injuries to coaches in the interim. The minutes record the district’s budget status and the personnel update but do not include projected budget numbers or contingency plans beyond the Sept. 30 timeline.
